Q. Are there any reservations for OBC candidates?
A. In case you are an OBC candidate, please bring an authenticated copy of your caste certificate (Non-Creamy) and other necessary supporting documents to your examination center.

What are the minimum qualifications for entry to the regular courses?
A. Excepting for the course on Animation and Computer Graphics the minimum qualification is a bachelor’s degree in any subject. For the course on Animation and Computer Graphics the minimum qualification is “10+2”. Additionally a student intending to apply for the course in Audiography must also have passed in Physics at the “10+2” level.

After reading your advertisement for admissions it was difficult to understand the details regarding the amount of money to be sent by Demand Draft to the FTII.
A.
1) You can collect a copy of the prospectus in person from the FTII after : ( 1st May, 2010)
2) Fill the form and send by post, you will need to pay the total fees ( Rs.2000 for General / OBC [Non Creamy Layer] Candidate and Rs.1650 for SC/ST Candidate ) all at once in a single demand draft.

Is there any age limit for entry to any of the regular course at the FTII?
A. No, there is no age limit.

Q.

Is there a system of placement for candidates after they have completed their studies at the FTII?
A. The FTII does not conduct any such placement services nor can the institute guarantee any employment. However the network of FTII alumni is very active all over the country (especially in Mumbai) and it is our experience that most candidates do find employment fairly soon after completion of their studies.

…about past years’ question papers of the entrance examination etc…
A. Despite it being stated quite clearly in our list of FAQs that we do not give out past years’ entrance exam question papers we continue to be inundated with queries in this regard. Please understand that it is currently the policy of the FTII not to reveal details of this kind.

What are the courses of study offered at the FTII?
A. The courses of study currently available at the FTII are broadly divided into regular courses and short-term courses. For more details of the short term courses. The regular courses for which there is an entrance examination are as follows:

    1. Three-year diploma course in Film and Television with specialization in Direction.
    2. Three-year diploma course in Film and Television with specialization in Cinematography.
    3. Three-year diploma course in Film and Television with specialization in Editing.
    4. Three-year diploma course in Film and Television with specialization in Sound Recording & Sound Design.
    5. One-year certificate course in Television with specialization in Direction.
    6. One-year certificate course in Television with specialization in Electronic Cinematography.
    7. One-year certificate course in Television with specialization in Video Editing.
    8. One-year certificate course in Television with specialization in Sound Recording and Television Engineering.
    9. Two-year post-graduate diploma in Acting.
    10. Two-year post-graduate diploma in Art Direction and Production Design.
    11. One-and-a-half year certificate course in Animation and Computer Graphics.
    12. One year post-graduate certificate course in Feature Film Screenplay Writing.

What is the film appreciation course all about? When is it conducted and when and where does its advertisement appear?
A. The film appreciation course of five weeks duration is held every year in May – June each year. It introduces the participants to the finer points in appreciating films. The advertisement for this course appears in all major newspapers in the month of March each year.This course is run in conjunction with The National Film Archive of India, Law College Road, Pune-411004 and enquiries about forms for the course may be directed to that address. Where and when are the application forms for the regular courses available?
A. The advertisement generally appears in all major newspapers in the month of March. A list of newspapers where this advertisement appeared can be found below.) Thereafter candidates may request the prospectus by post, fill in the application form etc. and post it back to the FTII as instructed in the prospectus. In addition you can fill up the form online!

Q.

What is the admission process for students from Afro-Asian and other countries?
A. Candidates from Afro-Asian countries need to pass an English Language test at the Indian Embassy in their respective countries. They should also check the availability of ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) scholarships with the local Indian Embassy staff. Self financing students (including NRIs) need only to download and print the form and fill it in without any processing fee. They will then be asked to appear for a telephonic interview.

What is Sound Recording?
A. Sound Recording involves the technical and creative aspects of recording sound for different media. Please see the current prospectus for details.

In what newspapers can one expect to find the advertisement for admission to the regular courses?
A. Where can I find the details of the regular courses?
A. Please procure the current (2010) prospectus for all the relevant details.

Where can I find the details of the short courses?
A. Please click on the relevant part of the website to get the details of the short courses currently on offer. Please note that the exact number and nature of these short courses may vary from year to year.

Is there a course in Choreography?
A. No. Currently there is no such course.

What are the numbers of seats for each of the courses?
A. Please see the prospectus for details on the number of seats available for each of the courses.

Are there any reserved seats?
A. Yes. 15 % of the total seats are reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, 7.5% of the total seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes and for this year (2010-2011) only, 27% of the total seats are reserved for the non-creamy layer of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs.) 3% of the total seats are also reserved for persons with disabilities in accordance with Government policy. Applicants applying under these categories should declare this in their application forms.

How long does the admission process take?
A. The entrance examination (a written test) will be held on the( 1st August, 2010 ) for all the regular courses. Other details will be placed on the website as and when available.

Are there any books that can be used to prepare for the entrance examination?
A. No.

A. No.
