Director of Technical Education conducts Joint Admission Test (JAT) for admission to Ist year of BE course to the two State Govt. Engineering Colleges i.e. Assam Engineering College, Guwahati; Jorhat Engineering College, Jorhat and Regional Engineering College, Silchar (Assam quota).

Eligibility for Assam JAT: Hr. Sec. Examination (12 years) from Assam Hr. Sec. Education Council or an equivalent examination with PCM, and English securing at least 50% marks in aggregate in PCM in one sitting are eligible.

Admission Procedure : Admission is open to permanent residents of Assam except Government of India/State nominees; Sons and daughters of Central Govt./Public Sector Undertakings employees posted in Assam and serving in the State for one year ( 7 seats). Application form and prospectus can be obtained from Engineering Colleges/ Polytechnics by hand or through post. Last date for submission of completed application form is in the month of April of the year of admission.

Test Pattern:
In the admission test the candidate must appear in the following papers:-
Mathematics – 100 Marks 3 hours
Physics – 100 Marks 3 hours
Chemistry – 100 Marks 3 hours
Biology – 100 Marks 3 hours

Reservation of seats: SC-7%,ST (plains)-10%, ST (hills)-5%, daughters of ex-servicemen-2 seats, OBC-15%, Sports persons-2, NCC-2, Physically handicapped-2, sons & daughters of central Govt./public sector employees posted in Assam & serving for one year-7 seats, Tea garden labour community- 2 seats, Ex-tea garden labour community- 2 seats. Seats are also reserved for Govt. of India/State nominees ( Sikkim, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunchal Pradesh, Mizoram).

Selection: Selected is on the basis of merit in JAT conducted at 18 centers in the State. The test is usually held in the month of June. There will be a separate merit list for SC/ST candidates. Candidates for BArch course are also required to appear in Aptitude test. Change is not allowed after admission.
