Student joining the programme are eligible for the award of M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology on successful completion of the course. The School of Biotechnology offers teaching in Biochemistry, Cell & Development Biology, Molecular Biology, Analytical Techniques, Biostatistics and Computer Applications in the first semester; Immunology Microbiology and industrial
Applications, Genetic Engineering, Genetics, Genomics & Proteomics in the second se mester; Bioprocess Engineering & Technology, Immunotechnology, Stem Cell Biology, IPR & Biosafety, Metabolic Engineering (elective I), Plant Biotechnology (elective II) in third semester and Bioentrepreneurship in fourth semester. To hone the research skills of students, in third
semester along with course work the students are required to do an independent one-year research project on some suitable problem related to biotechnology under the supervision of the faculty. The project work is evaluated on the basis of presentation and dissertation report. The assessment of the dissertation report is done by one external examiner and one internal member. To give technical exposure to the students, the School also encourages the students to undergo summer training in other institutes / industries for a period of six weeks after completion of second semester. The research areas of the school are Enzyme Technology, Molecular Biology, Microbial Technology, Plant Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Environmental Biotechnology, development of potential drug candidates and therapeutic targets with reference to metabolic disorders including diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular problems and thyroid abnormalities, obesity and metabolic syndrome.
