Students admitted to the programme are eligible for the award of M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology on successful completion of the course.

The students shall be introduced to the theoretical and practical aspects of the major areas of Biotechnology. The courses offered in the first semester are: Remedial Course 1 Introductory Mathematics (for Biology students) or 2 Introductory Biology (for Non-Biology students), Biochemistry Microbiology, Genetics & Molecular Biology and Instrumental Methods of Analysis.
The students will study Recombinant DNA Technology, Immunology and Immunotechnology, Plant Biotechnology and Animal Biotechnology in the second semester. They shall undertake Biochemical Engineering, Fermentation Technology, Enzyme Technology and Computer and Bioinformatics in third semester. Students are required to carry out a Minor Project. The courses in the fourth semester include Environmental Biotechnology, Biobusiness Management and a special paper. For specialization the students will opt any one of the areas: Biocatalysts and Biotransformation, Food Technology, Metabolic Engineering and Nano Biotechnology. They are also required to undertake a major research project in the area of biotechnology.
