Students admitted to the programme are eligible for the award of M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology on successful completion of the course. They can also avail facility of additional diploma in Nanoscience offered in the university.
The department offers M.Sc. semester courses in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biochemical, and Biophysical Techniques, Metabolism, Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering, Bioinformatics and Biostatistics, Immunology, Plant Biotechnology, IPR and Biosafety, Animal Biotechnology, Proteomics, Genomics, Immunotechnology, Microbial Technology, Environmental Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering. The new revised syllabus proposed by DBT is implemented from the year 2009-10 with updated inputs.
Students are also assigned with the project work, review article preparation and seminars. A study tour to undertake hands on experience in sophisticated industry/institute is encouraged. The project work on one of the advanced/emerging area is compulsory.

The centre has all the essential facilities, such as, Instrumentation laboratory, Cell and tissue culture laboratory, Virtual learning resource centre & digital library and Video conferencing.
The department has received various research projects funded by CSIR, DBT, DST, AICTE, MOWR,UGC. The department is collaborated for research activities with national institutes/organization such as SBI, Coimbatore; VSI, Pune; NIMHANS, Bangalore; Biocon, Bangalore; Novozymes, Bangalore.
The M.Sc students of the department have qualified national exams such as DBTJRF, CSIR-JRF, NET, GATE, NII, SLET etc.
