The Department offers a two-year post-graduate programme leading to the award of M.Sc. degree in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology and a five year integrated course in Biosciences and Bioinformatics.
The courses for the first two semesters are designed with an objective to strengthen the basic concepts of Life Sciences with emphasis on helping the students to develop a holistic perspective of life sciences. These courses include Genetics and Cytogenetics, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biophysical Chemistry, Techniques and Instrumentation, Enzymes and Enzyme Technology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cell and Tissue culture.
The third and fourth semesters offer courses giving in-depth treatment in the areas of Fermentation and Process Control, Genetic Engineering, Management and Legal Issues in Biotechnology. The Department offers three optional courses, viz., Animal Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology and Food Biotechnology for preferential selection of students. Two credit courses on Spoken English and Remedial Mathematics are offered during the first semester and an optional non-credit proficiency course chosen from other disciplines may be opted by the students. There is provision for other remedial courses on specific areas relevant to the programme whenever required. Students are given independent creditbased research projects as a partial requirement for the M.Sc. degree.
The Department has good laboratory facilities, Computers, Internet and Library facilities. The Department houses a Research Centre for Petroleum Biotechnology.

Enzymology and Enzyme Technology (6) Evolutionary Genomics (7) Molecular Immunology and Immunogenetics.
Fees to be paid at time of Admission: Rs.11572/- (Approx) (including medical insurance, Hostel admision and caution deposits) The amount is subject to revision.
