Eligibility

Candidate should have passed (or appeared) with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case BC categories belonging to Maharashtra only) in Bachelor’s /Master’s Degree in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities and having studied Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination.

OR

Passed with any Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration in any discipline and appeared for the final year examination of any Post Graduate degree of minimum two years duration in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities.

Such candidates can be considered for provisional admission subject to passing the Post Graduate Degree exam with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (45% for BC categories belonging to Maharashtra) and having studied Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination.

Important:- Candidates appeared for final year degree examination (Graduation/Post Graduation) and fulfilling the remaining eligibility criteria will be offered provisional admission subject to the condition that they will pass and submit the results of the examination with the required percentage of marks on or before 25th September of the year of admission. In case, such candidate fails to produce the results of the final year examination on or before 25th September 2010, then admission offered to such candidate automatically stands cancelled and the fees (tuition, development and other fees) paid by the candidate will be forfeited.

OR

Candidate has passed Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA), Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS), Bachelor of Science (Computer/Information Technology) degree courses.

Note:-For the Maharashtra State Type A candidates the Home University shall be considered on the basis of place of passing the Graduation degree examination. The place of passing Post Graduate degree, if any, will not be considered for deciding the Home University of the candidate.

Syllabus

MCET exam consists of the following given subject:-

General Aptitude:

The objective of this paper is to assess the general aptitude of the candidate to pursue computer applications and software profession.

The questions in this paper will consist of logical reasoning, quantitative reasoning, high school mathematics, vocabulary, English comprehension and verbal ability.

Mathematics

Algebra:

Fundamental operations in Algebra, Expansion, factorization, Quadratic equations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, binomial theorem, permutations and combinations.

Co-ordinate Geometry:

Rectangular Cartesian co-ordinates, equations of a line, mid point, intersections etc., equations of a circle, distance formulae, pair of straight lines, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola, simple geometric transformations such as translation, rotation, scaling.

Differential Equations:-

Differential equations of first order and their solutions, linear differential equations with constant coefficients, homogenous linear differential equations.

Trigonometry:-

Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles, solution of triangles, height and distance, inverse function.

Probability and Statistics:-

Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, and measures of dispersions, skewness and kurtosis, random variable and distribution functions, mathematical expectations, Binomial, Poisson, normal distributions, curve fitting, and principle of least squares, correlation and regression.

Arithmetic:

Ratios and proportions, problems on time-work, distance-speed, percentage, etc.

Set Theory and Functions:

Set, relations and mappings.

Mensuration:

Areas, triangles and quadrilaterals, area and circumference of circles, volumes and surface areas of simple solids such as cubes, spheres, cylinders and cones.

Computer Concepts:

Computer Basics:

Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Structure of instructions in CPU, input / output devices, computer memory, memory organization, back-up devices.

Data Representation:

Representation of characters, integers, and fractions, binary and hexadecimal representations, Binary Arithmetic: Addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, signed arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point representation of numbers, normalized floating point representation, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams.

Computer Architecture:

Block structure of computers, communication between processor and I / O devices, interrupts.

Computer Language:

Assembly language and high level language, Multiprogramming and time sharing operating systems, Computer Programming in C.

Operating System basics:

Multi programming and timesharing operating systems.

Pattern

The multiple choice objective type MCET would be of 2 1/2 (Two and half) hours duration and would have a maximum of 200 marks consisting of the above given syllabus.

Important: – Unlike most of other MCA entrance exams the MCET would not have negative marking. However there will be five option to each question and this paper will be only in English language.

This exam is normally held in the month of June every year.
